What do I need to know about the eMudhra Certificate Incident?

Is eero protected against compromised eMudhra certificates?

eero's most important functions, like configuration and updates, were never affected since they connect to the eero cloud using eero's own private certificates, not public ones (like eMudhra).

Parental controls, ad blocking, and malware blocking rely on third-party filtering services that use public certificates. In theory, someone intercepting your internet connection with a fake certificate could impersonate these services to view which sites you visit, send you to fake sites, or disable filtering altogether. We have no evidence this happened to any customer. As a precautionary measure, eeroOS 7.17.3 revokes trust for eMudhra and related certificates. And it installs automatically. See release notes here.

How do I check my firmware version?

To check your own eero network and confirm you’re on eeroOS 7.17.3 or later:

  • On the eero App Home tab, and tap the eero whose firmware version you'd like to see

  • Locate Software Version, the firmware version is listed here

Note: Updating this network will cause it to automatically reboot.

One additional thing you can do

eero has taken steps to keep you safe, but you should keep all internet devices in your home or business safe too by updating their software to the latest versions. This matters most for smart home gadgets that might not update on their own, like smart light switches, garage door openers, or video streaming devices.
