What is Ad Blocking?

Ad Blocking is an eero Plus feature that blocks most ads across websites and applications for all devices connected to your eero network. It works at the DNS level, which can make it more effective than many traditional browser-based ad blockers.

How does Ad Blocking work?

When you browse the web, each page loads content from many sources, including ad networks. Ad Blocking checks these requests at the DNS level and prevents known advertising domains from loading. This helps remove visible ads, tracking pixels, and other advertising tools across the vast majority of websites and services.

Because it works at the network level, Ad Blocking protects all devices on your network automatically, with no software to install on individual devices.

How do I enable Ad Blocking?

  1. Open the eero app, and tap Home.

  2. Tap Security & privacy.

  3. Tap Network controls.

  4. Toggle Ad Blocking on.

Note: Ad Blocking applies to your entire network by default. You can also apply it on a per-Profile basis (see below).

How do I apply Ad Blocking to specific Profiles?

If you'd rather enable Ad Blocking for some devices but not others, you can apply it at the Profile level:

  1. Open the eero app, and tap Home.

  2. Tap Security & privacy.

  3. Tap Network controls.

  4. Select one or more of your existing Profiles to apply Ad Blocking.

This lets some devices have full access to ad-supported sites while others have ads blocked.

What if Ad Blocking causes a website or app to stop working?

Our block list can sometimes cause a website or application to stop working as expected. To check whether Ad Blocking is the cause:

  1. Open the eero app, and tap Home.

  2. Tap Security & privacy.

  3. Tap Network controls.

  4. Toggle Ad Blocking off.

  5. Wait a few minutes, then try the website or app again.

If the site or app works after disabling Ad Blocking, you have two options:

  • Add the domain to your Allow list. This lets the site load normally while keeping Ad Blocking enabled for everything else. For details, see our Block & Allow Sites guide.

If disabling Ad Blocking doesn't resolve the issue after a few minutes, the problem may not be related to Ad Blocking. Contact eero Support with details about the website or app you're having trouble with.
