Can I set my eeros to use the 2.4, 5, or 6 GHz frequency?

eero uses a single SSID that allows devices to seamlessly roam between the 2.4, 5, and, on supported networks, 6 GHz radio frequencies. This ensures your devices are able to move along eero's mesh efficiently, delivering the highest results to the devices throughout your entire home.

There is no way to permanently separate the frequencies broadcast by the eero into distinct 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands. However, this does not impede the ability of most devices to connect and operate seamlessly on the eero network, even if they only operate on a single frequency, such as 2.4 GHz.

Certain devices require a connection to a specific wireless frequency in order to connect. These devices can be difficult to connect to the eero network without taking specific steps to improve compatibility.

Hiding 5 and 6 GHz

Smart home and Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices that connect through a third-party app often have a strict 2.4 GHz requirement that prevents them from connecting to eero networks under default settings. You can use the eero App to improve compatibility with these devices by temporarily “hiding” the 5 and 6 GHz frequencies, allowing you to connect your devices.

  1. Open the eero App, and tap Settings in the bottom-right corner

  2. Scroll down, and tap Troubleshooting

  3. Tap My device won’t connect

  4. Tap My device is 2.4 GHz only

  5. Tap the Pause 5 GHz and 6 GHz button

Note: The 5 and 6 GHz bands will automatically re-enable after 10 minutes. To re-enable sooner, tap Cancel at the bottom of the screen.

Devices that connect will stay connected even after 5 and 6 GHz begin broadcasting again.
