What is Local DNS caching?

Local DNS caching can potentially speed up page loads by storing website address information at the network level. This can provide a faster internet experience, especially for websites you visit often.

What is DNS?

Domain Name System (DNS) is the phonebook that maps names to addresses on the internet. Whenever you enter a domain name like eero.com, DNS locates where its server is by asking multiple external servers for its IP address. Local DNS caching stores this information at the network level so your network doesn't need to look it up every time.

Note: Local DNS caching is not available on eero networks that are in bridge mode or have eero Plus features active. See What features do I lose if I put my eeros in bridge mode?

How do I enable Local DNS caching?

 To enable Local DNS caching:

  1. Open the eero App, and tap Settings in the bottom-right corner

  2. Tap Advanced networking

  3. Under Network services, tap Local DNS caching

  4. Tap the toggle button. The button will turn blue to indicate Local DNS caching is enabled
