FAQs

What is eero Built-in and how does it work?

eero Built-in is our newest technology that turns select Echo products into eero mesh wifi extenders. Add up to 1,000 sq. ft. of coverage to your existing eero network and support speeds up to 100 Mbps for 10 or fewer connected devices in the 5 GHz band. No additional charge with a compatible Echo device, just more wifi for all. In case of any issues, here's a list of eero, Echo, and Alexa features that may be incompatible with eero Built-in.

Which Alexa smart speakers are compatible with eero Built-in?

Echo Pop, 4th and 5th Gen Echo Dot and Echo Dot with Clock, and 4th Gen Echo, support eero Built-in.

Which eero routers are compatible with eero Built-in?

All eero systems are compatible with eero Built-in (except eero Home Wifi System, 1st generation, 2016).

What do I need to take advantage of eero Built-in?

You will need a compatible Echo device and a compatible eero mesh wifi router to enable the free feature. eero Built-in is currently only available in the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom.

How do I enable eero Built-in on my Echo device?

First, set up your eero router and network. Then, set up your compatible Echo device in the Alexa app, and link your Amazon account in the eero app to enable eero Built-in. The Echo device will automatically extend your eero wifi network. For more information on how to set up eero Built-in, read this article.

What kind of performance does eero Built-in provide?

eero Built-in on your compatible Echo device extends your eero wifi coverage up to 1,000 sq. ft., supports speeds up to 100 Mbps, and enables up to 10 connected devices (all in the 5 GHz band).

What is the difference between eero Built-in wifi extender and eero Built-in wifi router?

Both eero Built-in capabilities extend eero’s wifi technology, including TrueMesh, to non-eero hardware. However, with an eero Built-in wifi router device such as the Ring Alarm Pro, the device has the full functionality of a Wi-Fi 6 router (learn more about Ring Alarm Pro here). With an eero Built-in wifi extender, like the Echo Dot (5th Gen), the device simply extends your existing router’s range, but still requires a separate router.

If my eero is providing coverage to an area and I have a compatible Echo device, will eero Built-in create interference and lead to a lower quality wifi signal?

No. When you enable eero Built-in, eero intelligently detects when your eero devices are already providing great coverage at your Echo device.

Why does eero disable built-in on my Echo device if there is already solid eero device coverage?

Too many device signals can cause interference and cause poor device performance. Given eero devices generally support higher internet speeds than eero Built-in on a compatible Echo device, eero prioritizes using a nearby eero device over a nearby Echo device if their coverage areas significantly overlap. eero intelligently detects when your eero devices are already providing great coverage and to disable eero Built-in on your Echo device as needed.

eero Built-in is an optional feature available in the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom. Your wifi network must use a compatible eero router and your Echo device must stay in range of a compatible eero device. You will need to link your eero and Amazon accounts and manage eero Built-in from the eero mobile application to use this feature. eero Built-in compatible Echo devices support up to 1,000 sq. ft. of additional coverage, speeds up to 100 Mbps, and 10 or fewer connected devices, in the 5 GHz band. Internet connection speeds and availability depend on your internet service provider; if your internet service provider does not provide you with the maximum supported speed, you will not experience that maximum speed. Maximum wireless signal rates are derived from IEEE 802.11 standard. Coverage estimates are based on normal use conditions. Actual range and performance can vary, and maximum supported speeds may not be available to all customers, due to factors such as local regulations (including power limits), network configuration, interference, connected devices, device usage, building materials, and obstructions. Certain eero, Echo, or Alexa features may be incompatible with eero Built-in.
