Why does my eero app say "We couldn't detect a mobile connection"?

The eero app uses your phone's mobile data connection during setup. This message appears when the app can't detect an active mobile data connection, either because your device is wifi-only (like a tablet) or mobile data is turned off.

How do I set up eero without a mobile connection?

Connect your gateway eero to your existing router instead of your modem:

  • Connect your gateway eero to your existing router via Ethernet (instead of your modem).

  • Complete the eero setup using your current wifi network for internet access.

  • After setup, switch to your eero network.

  • If you have a standalone modem and router: unplug the eero from your router, power cycle your modem, then connect the eero directly to the modem.

Note: When power cycling your modem, wait until it's fully powered back on before plugging in your eero. Depending on the modem, this may take 3–5 minutes.

What if I have access to another phone?

You can use any smartphone with an active mobile data connection to complete setup.
